Application Instructions
Step 1: Schedule Interview
Important: Before submitting any paperwork, contact the Serteen Advisors to schedule an interview time at advisors@serteenshawaii.org.
Contact us right away if you are thinking about applying or have any questions about Serteens – it is never too early to email us.
Step 2: Submit your Application
Along with the interview, as part of the application process, prospective members must submit the following:
- Membership Application Form
- Verification from a counselor or other school authority. We can accept verification including any of the following:
- Top Two Percent– a score of 98% or better on a Nationally Recognized Test (SAT, ACT, etc.)
- 130 IQ+- If you have either a) Not Taken a Nationally Recognized Test, or b) Did not do your best on the test, and you still want to be a Serteen, you may provide documentation of an IQ of 130 or higher
- Gifted and Talented Designation from your counselor, or other qualified adult
- Recommendation Form for a teacher or counselor
- Short answer. Getting to know you.
Step 3: Complete the Interview Process
After submitting your application, you will be interviewed by current members of the club.
We generally invite prospective members to join us at a general meeting, so you can complete the interview process as well as see the types of activities that are upcoming for the club on the same day. Interviews may also be conducted online via Zoom.
Note: You may be able to complete the interview prior to submitting the application.
Frequently Asked Questions
What Ages Do You Accept?
- We accept incoming members in 7th, 8th, and 9th grades, and occasionally make exceptions for sophomores and juniors.
- Serteens members range in age from 12-18 years old.
- In the past, we have also made exceptions in age for students who have skipped grades.
When Should I Apply?
The best time to join is between March and May since the Serteen year runs from May through April.
However, Serteens accepts applications year-round.

Where Should I Send My Application?
Applications may be submitted via JotForm, physical mail, or brought in person to your interview.
Remember – you need to submit a complete application and an interview for your membership to be considered.

Where Are the Meetings and The Interview?
Meetings and interviews are generally conducted on Sunday afternoons at St. Andrew’s Priory, located at 224 Queen Emma Square Honolulu, HI 96813.
We are an independent service organization, not affiliated with St. Andrew’s Priory, however, we are thankful that they graciously provide us with meeting areas.
How Will I Know If I Am Accepted?
We email acceptance letters. This is also why it is very important that you establish contact with us at advisors@serteenshawaii.org.
After your interview, we generally email acceptance letters within two weeks.
Is There a Fee To Apply?
No, there is no fee to apply to Serteens.
Once accepted into the club, Membership Dues are $20 the first year, and $5 each year thereafter.
